Google Friend Connect Enabled Sites I’ve Found
December 4, 2008 by Erika
Technology Goddess is Google Friend Connect powered now, so please do come and join in the social conversation. It’s exciting to be part of the groundbreaking of a new social application that likely will see millions of users in the near future.
The sites that are coming online are pretty much relying on organic search results to show they have Friend Connect enabled on the site so that other users can find them without searching through tons of profiles. This is why I am creating this post, so that in the search results when someone types in “Google Friend Connect Sites” or the like, they can find me and decide if I’m someone they would like to befriend.
All in all, I love friend connect so far and am having a lot of fun connecting with the other users coming online with it!
- The fact that you can travel from site to site, and have your friends travel with you is wonderful!
- I am also able to see what other sites my friends have joined, and then go check out those sites to see if they interest me as well.
In the near future, simply having the ability to see what sites your friends are on, and then visit those sites and join is going to provide an almost limitless supply of amazing new websites and places to visit.
Right now all of the newly Friend Connect enabled site owners are trying to connect with each other for the purpose of exploring the community. I have decided that an ongoing list of sites that I discover and find are on Google Friend Connect might be helpful for those of you just coming online with Friend Connect and looking around to see where you can play.

This is only a service I’m going to provide until there is something “Google official” for Friend Connect Powered sites to be found by one another easily. (Hmmm directory?)
Once there are thousands of sites powered, this will also not be an issue, the neural aspect of the network will start to make finding one another easy! In the meantime, lets connect, have fun and enjoy being some of the pioneers in this new network!

Hey Erika,
thanks for listing my site. I was wondering why so many folks where signing up as members.
Will give you a rink tomorrow.
Best,
Ferny
Visit-Dominica.com is another Friend Connect-enabled site!
Hi Erika,
I commented in the GFC box. I would appreciate it if you listed my site.
All the best
John (aka BoonDock)
Any word on a “Google official” for Friend Connect? Do you think this application will take away from facebook and other social network platforms?
Hi, Great idea until Google comes up with something official. My site is basically a persoanl website and a soapbox at times
Garazon’s Den http://www.garazon.com
Thanks for the list, off to check out the sites
Just installed Friend Connect in order to test it out. Always nice to run into someone else blogging on the subject!

@Brian Yes Brian, I do feel that Google Friend Connect will have a major global web impact and take traffic from Facebook’s Friend Connect.
Why? Because Facebook was originally part of Google Friend Connect and they walked on the deal because of data/profile sharing misunderstandings. Facebook is what I like to call a nice “walled garden”, it is a pretty walled garden mind you , and a fun walled garden to climb into and run around and play in…. the owners of the garden are generous and provide visitors with lots of social games and funnery like poking and tickling and tea…. but it’s still a walled garden all the same… and at the end of the social day you have to climb OUT of the walled garden and go home… and your not allowed to take anything that is yours from the garden home with you! (like your DATA!?)
Google Friend Connect is like an endless garden you can enter into from anywhere.
Google Friend Connect with it’s OpenSocial and OpenID login benefits is going to have a wealth of integration and apps that Facebook cannot and will not be able to really match with all the “pokes” “jabs” and “winks” in the world. Plus, Facebook has made it damn hard to integrate their stuff on an average users blog or site. Is their app cool…well yeah. Is it practical outside of their walled garden? Only in a lukewarm way.
One things that Google needs to do, and FAST is get other social networks integrated so that your activity from Google friend connect is fed to friendfeed etc…. because that is one place Facebook kicks their “a*s”. Once Google get’s the full social integration with the other OpenSocial platforms that are already working with them anyway, Game Over for Facebook.
Google is laying the groundwork for future social technology and community with Friend Connect, remember that it is no small thing to not only engineer a friend neural-network, but to take the friend network into other sites you may create, join or engage with. Mark my words that within 12-18 months, anyone who has a blog that is NOT on Google Friend connect will be considered archaic, and so 1.0 !

Hi there….. Installed a few widgets the other day -kicking the tires. For me the jury is still out until we see what other widgets/toys we get with it. Should be interesting…. Anyway, site is in the comment bit above… love to be on the list and see what this bad boy can do.
[...] You should also friend the Technology Goddess (I found her site through Friend Connect, fancy that), she was part of the closed Beta and has some terrific info including an instructional video for those that might have trouble with setup and a running list of Friend Connect enabled sites. [...]
@ Erika Well said, a walled garden. You’re absolutely right about Facebook having made it hard to integrate their stuff on a blog. I’m not at all an expert when it comes to working with code, but I generally can mull my way through things until I get it right. I had a go the other night trying to work with Facebook Connect just to see what it involves and 15 minutes into it I threw my hands up. I rarely give up on anything, but I didnt think twice of giving up figuring that out.
I believe youre right also, Google is laying the ground work for a howl new way of (web) life.
And thanks for adding my site to the list, appreciate it!
Wow, glad I found your site! I was searching around for other sites who have GFC. I just added it to both my website and my blog and like what I see so far, just need to get some more members
Big EZ BEar is also now Friend Connect Enabled
http://bigezbear.blogspot.com
I am working on integrating GFC on the site:
http://handmadecontemporaryjewellery.com
I’m currently trying to find a fix for bug which crashes IE (only on pages with a Google map), get it fixed soon please Google!
The site isn’t the normal type where you’ll see GFC (i.e.Tech), and it’s new, so double whamy for me.
A link and any comments would be helpful.
Thanks!
Hello Erika, I just recently installed my Friend Connect Gadget at http://socialmediavision.com looking for some great new members to connect with
Here is one for those who have a concern about the American Levee system, http://levees.org just added friend connect and so far I am their only friend.
As a New Orleanian I humbly request that folks drop by and friend them
I’m going to try to cnvince them to move it to the front page but right now the Friend Connect box is on this page:
http://levees.org/webmaster
Disclosure: As a Katrina survivor I find this incredibly important, and am curently talking to them about joining the team to get this important issue more attention. If in any way this is considered SPAM please delete it and I hope you accept my apologies.
We implemented Friend Connect over the weekend. Will be expanding on it soon.

I love your site and your idea on GFC site listing also inspired us to great the Google Friend Connect Directory (http://www.gfcdirectory.com)
If anyone would like to stop by and register your site then it would be great, all listings are 100% free, in fact the whole directory is free. We only accept GFC enabled site and validate every submission, if we think you have a great site then it may end up also being featured.
Technologygoddess… please stop by and register as I would really like to showcase your site both in our directory and als our blog.
Friend Connect added to Feedgrowth.com too.

Our Birmingham computer repair service website http//:www.kimbley.com has had Google friend connect since launch day.
We are using it to allow users to leave reviews about our computer repair services.
Thanks for helping to provide a source for FC sites. I’ve only added FC about 24 hours ago and began searching for examples of use. After finding your site and the FC sites you’ve listed I found several interesting and joined.
I’ll need to modify the site some and perhaps play around with the format to make it a little better. I’ve already gotten some good ideas from a few of the sites you show.
Thanks again!
“Vicki’s Husband”
Great articles and information. As an IT Director for a large law firm you can never have too many good sites like yours. Thanks for the FC listings! Very helpful.
have implemented Friends Connect and still learning the pitfalls and advantages , as more functionality is rolled out I am sure the growth will continue only have a few dozen joined so far and I think the takeup will depend on how many webmasters decide to implement and how quickly Google innovates new functionality , great post btw to put it out there
